Van Halen Writing New Music, Sounds “Old-School”

Alter Bridge and Creed guitarist Mark Tremonti has given us a peek into the recording of the new Van Halen album. The band is writing new music that will feature their original singer David Lee Roth. Unfortunately original bassist Michael Anthony was fired from the band years ago. Eddie’s son Wolfgang Van Halen has assumed Anthony’s role.
Tremonti, who is friends with Wolfgang and Eddie spent time at their 5150 studios recently and says the new tunes sounded like “old-school” Van Halen, “What makes it so great is that they took what they could from all their old demos back in the ’80s and pretty much did what they could to create songs out of old ideas, so it sounds like vintage Van Halen”.
He tells morning show host Ross Ford on Colorado’s 94.3 KILO, “Musically, it sounds in the [early '80s] era. I didn’t hear any vocals — David [Lee Roth] was not there. It was just the three of them and the music sounded like very authentic, old-school Van Halen.”
