The “Occupy Oakland” protests in Oakland, California turned ugly on Tuesday as protesters and police clashed. Police offered multiple warnings for protesters to disperse before they fired tear gas canisters into the crowd at about 7:45pm. The protesters were unsuccessfully trying to reclaim an encampment outside Oakland City Hall that police had cleared away 12 hours earlier. Overall about 100 people were arrested yesterday in Oakland as a result of protesters either refusing to leave, resisting arrest or assaulting police officers.
