Response to “what can we do for the gulf coast?” Do what you do best:?
Possibility: Set-up ala Band-Aid or Farm Aid.
Possibility: Contact fishermen from Deadliest Catch currently doing TV ads for Florida fishermen. PR or intros during concert.

Something to think about, at least. The fishermen are desperate right now..

Hey guys whats up? I am a long time listener of your show and I just thought something. Ok let me tell you a little bit about my unfortunate situation. Meat Bikini Contest? Are you kidding me? Who approved this??? Lady Gaga does a magazine fashion cover in a “Meat Bikini,” so you decide turn it into a radio promotion? People are freaking homeless and starving tonight, and you decide to waste meat in the most sexually offensive way possible? People are going to bed hungry tonight and pray to have a nice meal. This is just offensive and irresponsible. Shame on you all.

      September 14, 2010 8:22 pm

Great Idea, give the old raw meat sitting out in the open, in the elements, covered in bacteria after being draped on human bodies to animals. No zoo or animal rescue group will go for it. Giving decayed meat to innocent helpless animals is abusive. The shame on you continues.

Hey guys. I heard you talking about Moonfest this morning while I was in my car but I didn’t have my phone. I saw first hand what actually happened, at least part of it.

It was around 2:30 a.m., I was a block west of Roxy’s hangin out with some friends when all the sudden a wave of people starting coming up the street and everyone around me started coughing. It passed and people started coming back down Clematis from the west to return to the festivities. We decided to go sit on a bench and relax when a large group of young black guys came from across the street chasing, punching, kicking a skinny little white kid. The knocked him to the ground right behind the bench we were sitting at. Once he was down they surrounded him and started kickin the crap out of him. I just reacted to the situation and stood up and told them to stop it….mind you I’m 44 years old and gay. I was their with my partner and two straight couples we know. Next thing I know, an undercover cop (at least that’s what it appeared to be) came up Clematis from the east and knealed down just behind the fight and sprayed pepper spray or tear gas. It broke up the fight and everyone ran. It was crazy. I couldn’t see for a few minutes. One of my friends came and grabbed me and took me down the street.

I won’t be going back for that craziness. We just all wanted to go somewhere dressed in our costumes for Halloween. I live in Lake Worth and I recommended we go to downtown Lake Worth, but we ended up at MoonFest.

It’s not safe there. I won’t be going back ever again. I don’t know how true this is, but a friend of mine told me that it appeared to be gang initiation activites. Young black males looking to join a gang have to go out and first beat up someone in public for no reason other than to prove their worthiness. It certainly appeared to me to be that situation. This kid was alone, scrawny and being attacked by 6-10 young black males. It wasn’t good at all……

Hi I have a question. Will we have to buy Buzz Bake Sale tickets even if we just want to come see the local bands who are playing the Independent Artist stage? And will that stage be inside the actual amphitheatre or outside?

    Jason
    November 24, 2010 3:12 pm

Yes, if you want to see and hear the bands on any stage, you’ll need to have a ticket and come inside. It won’t be much fun trying to hear from the parking lot.

SOUTH FLORIDA HAS NO MODERN ROCK STATION! We are lost. Please expand to the listeners in Fort Lauderdale-Miami that need you and need to hear the rock they love!

    Jason
    November 29, 2010 12:22 am

The listeners in Palm Beach County would beg to differ. I get what you mean… Miami-Dade/Broward area has no rock and roll on the radio and we feel for you. Trust me, if we could boost the signal to reach you we would. If you REALLY want to hear your South Florida rock station, 103.1 The Buzz while you’re in that area, lots of folks will listen through their smart phone (iPhone, Blackberry, etc). Some folks even plug their phone into their car stereo and don’t even skip a beat! You can also listen while at home or in the office at Buzz103.com. Good luck and thanks for the request!

Sooo is there anyway to buy tickets to BBS without paying livenation’s ridiculous $18 service fee? I know the Buzz Street Team was going around forever selling the tix for just the face val $36 cash but I was unsure if I could make the date until now soooo anyway/where to pick up tix for face or minimal service fee? anything LESS than 18? Thanks

Not sure how much exactly the fees will be at the box office on Saturday, but there may be fewer service fees at the box office.

Wondering why the bake sale is twice as much as it was last year

    Jason
    December 2, 2010 1:45 pm

Actually, it’s not. In the last few years, lawn tickets had a base price of $20 and seats had a base price of $40. Now we’re meeting in the middle and the base price of ALL tickets is $30. So lawn are a little higher and seats are a little lower than they’ve been in the last few years.

We listen to you guys (&girls) at work everyday–all day..you have a bummer of an ad that plays about EVERY hour about how this guy lost his wife to smoking–WE GET IT…we have changed the station because of it. Cancer is an awful thing that plagues all of us..but it’s gotten to the point that we start counting how many time the ad airs…how much are they paying you? It ruins your flow…I know we’re not the only ones effected by it–& we don’t smoke! STOP THE MADNESS!

Im a die hard rocker in west broward. Since december Ive been struggling with the loss of 93Rock. >,< I spend mosta my time in areas where I can tune into The Buzz which I love! My question is…why doesnt The Buzz capitalize on the lower part of Broward and Dade? WE'RE SUFFERING for a station like yours! Please! A bigger antenna? =) Keep rocking!

    Jason
    April 4, 2011 8:07 am

Believe me, we wish we could have a stronger signal down south! But the FCC limits the power of radio station’s transmitters and we’re already pumping out our maximum signal. Sorry! Your best option is to get the Radio.com app for your iPhone or Android and listen to us that way. Some folks can plug their phone right into their car radio. It works great!

I just heard the commercial that Ross did for Island jacks. The rick stoddard one. I found it pretty distasteful. You are belittling a public service announcement. I for one did not find it funny at all. Am I alone? Let’s see what kind of class the other listeners have.

Wander24
April 13, 2011 10:07 am

Josh,

It’s an extremely annoying commercial. I just quit smoking because I chose to for myself, not because of some irritating commercial. Rick should have told his wife to stop smoking, instead of just whining about it. I agree that the Buzz commercial is mildly distasteful, but what isn’t? It’s what we Americans find funny. Sad days my friends.

April 24, 2011 8:49 pm

So I know you want to broaden your music since the classic rock station disappeared. That would be great, but instead of adding to the Buzz library it feels more like they are limiting it to 80′s metal bands and a ton of 90′s grunge every day. You guys were the BEST station out there because you played new stuff you can’t hear anywhere else. After a month, I am tired to death of the 80′s and 90′s. Can you pleeeeease play more of your other stuff? I’m the Buzz’s biggest fan.

      Still sad
      April 26, 2011 12:45 am

      Jason,
Thanks for responding. Hey, the other half of your listeners is still out here! I have requested music thru facebook and listeners clicked “like” to my posts, but they always get DELETED! Do our opinions not count?? Is it possible to play an even mix to make everyone happy, or maybe bring back the old Buzz on HD-2? It would get more action than Buzz Lite, I think. :D

Normally we try to keep our facebook page cleaned of comments that are negative about the music we play. Of course your opinion matters! We just don’t want our facebook fan page become a repository for complaints, you know? That’s not why we started the page.

And great minds think alike – I can’t divulge details exactly what the plans are for the HD2, but your idea is a very good one!

Good afternoon:

Are there any plans to extend your radio station to Miami, Florida? Currently the only rock station we have is 105.9 (really classic rock). It would be great to have your radio station reach us plus you would have a wider audience.

Thank you for your attention.

hey i was listening to the stastion the other day, and the dj said that you guys were still looking for local bands that don’t suck to play buzz bake sale this year. i play bass in the band dirty ol’ stayouts. it would be an honor and a privelige to plays this show. i’ve been to the first buzz bake sale back in the day when the buzz used to play more punk, ska, and hardcore music. i feel it would do the concert justice if you had at least one ol’ skool punk band in the lineup. think about it. thanks for all the years of havin’ a great raido station, blew zeta outta the water, although 88.5 is still the best. we’re pompano&ft. lauderdale boys, oi! we do play for beer, a whole shit ton!

Hey Buzz,
There is another band called One besides the local band. They have a web address: http://www.onetheband.com/. I got confuse here, I thought it was the local band, ONE: not the fake one. Let Jon know it, if the other band has violated copyrighted of his band. I listen to Local ONE: when they were known as CAVEMAN, then CAVE, and now ONE: I don’t who has the copyright protection on their name.

Hi 103.1!
Can you PLEASE boost your signal so us deprived, constant channel-flippers, can listen to rock? Because all the stations here suck! We had a somewhat rock station that ended last year. They sucked big time, as they’d play the same 10 bands all day long, and Chilli Peppers like once every two hours! You guys don’t suck! I enjoy the station whenever I have to go up to Boca. So, please, boost your signal!!!!!!

    Jason
    December 1, 2011 7:46 pm

Aw, thanks Chris but our signal is as strong as it’s ever gonna get. Fortunately you can listen to 103.1 The Buzz through Buzz103.com or download the Radio.com app (it’s FREE) for your smartphone and listen to us anywhere!

What happened? I was driving home and all of a sudden 103.1 went soft. It went from hard rock to lame bubblegum music at 3:00 PM 12/05/11. WTF IS GOING ON!!!

Is this the new 103.1 in West Palm Beach.

    Jason
    December 5, 2011 5:37 pm

NOW 103.1 has taken over our former FM frequency. The Buzz still streams and can be heard through the free Radio.com app on your smartphone. Also if you have an HD radio you can tune in 103.1-2 and hear The Buzz still.

Max, I love your passion. Please know that our local management didn’t make this decision. A move this big comes from higher levels in our company. So don’t direct your frustration to our local guys. We are just doing our jobs, that includes our general manager who many of you mistakenly assume “did this to us”. I wish you would instead shift your energy on making people realize that The Buzz continues to be heard through Buzz103.com… while you guys support it. If no one does then The Buzz would disappear completely. I don’t want that to happen and I hope you don’t either. Unfortunately the petition won’t reclaim our 103.1 FM frequency. But driving people to support the current version of The Buzz will make it successful and ensure that it doesn’t disappear in the future. Thanks!

Eric
December 6, 2011 7:46 am

WTF happened? You guys play crap now!!! This is horrible! Completely stupid move! Pop music??? Wow.

    Jason
    December 6, 2011 8:16 am

No Eric. We don’t play crap now. The station you’re hearing on 103.1 is not The Buzz. We have left the FM dial but you can hear us right now streaming at Buzz103.com or if you have a smartphone download the Radio.com app (it’s free). People that have HD radios can hear us on 103.1-2. Sorry about the big change, we wish it could have stayed like it was. But please spread the word about listening in those ways I mentioned. I want to keep The Buzz online so we can continue to enjoy it!

Michael
December 6, 2011 9:17 am

I have to say, i am heart broken and pissed that the buzz is no longer on regular radio. I will not be buying HD radio equipment. I will not listen to buzz on my damn phone, that is not the same and my battery life on my phone is for communication not radio. I cant stream at work. I like the buzz on the radio at home and in my car. So what is the point. This sucks! And no other rock station in this area.. WTF. I really liked the Buz, but this cuts deep.

    Jason
    December 6, 2011 5:25 pm

Sorry Michael, not our doing. No one in the West Palm office had anything to do with the big picture decision.

Michael
December 6, 2011 9:19 am

So are enough people not listening to rock these days, there are so many flourishing pop stations like we needed another one.. geesh.. Why did the Buz leave the FM dial?

    Jason
    December 6, 2011 5:24 pm

You said it… that’s why we left the FM dial. Not enough people were listening to make it work from a profitability standpoint. We still had a ton of listeners, but with the advertising market the way it has been the last few years… we just couldn’t make the numbers work and justify keeping us where we were.

      Michael
      December 7, 2011 1:49 pm

It is just a hard picture to paint! Why the listeners are not there or Advertisers & $$. Regarding my comment below, this area seems over the past decades has had trouble keeping a Rock station. It appears there is a HUGE Rock audience here so I just can’t figure it out. :( I mean, it is not like Rock is dying, look at the Orlando, Jacksonville, Tampa and Pensacola markets. doing well. I have been in all those areas and heard those stations and they Rock. some could do with LESS Classic lol (98 Rock in Tamp is guilty of that). This area should do well with a Rock station but reality paints a different picture. Any insight as to why you think this might be? You are the professional here in this area on this matter. It is just sad not to have a ON AIR FM Rock station. I have never lived in a community that did not have at least one, most times several to choose from. Call me old (though I am not ), and no pun to you the Buzz, but I think internet radio sucks. Besides, until technology catches up and HD receivers are in EVERY auto (or an option) and home it is just to cumbersome to listen to. (can’t install an aftermarket HD Rec in a new car just purchased in view of warranty issues and it was not even an option new). A cell phone is not the answer. Battery life there is limited as is. So obviously it is what it is but it just really suxxxxx! Good Luck! Hopefully we can get you guys back on air or…or worst case at least a new Rock station with a different owner than CBS with pick up the mantle! But I would like the Buzz back! Regarding cbs looing at all thier markets they don’t seem to be Rock friendly! Period. I don’t buy the NOW 10.31 hype about market research and that is what the WPB area wanted. ANOTER pop top 40 station. Really? BS. And that quote came from a familar name! Keep it Rockin!

Sounds alot like wrmf, and wild. try hireing some one to listen to satalite radio and just play music by popular artist that no one has heard..you can start there, and you dont need a dam morning show every raido station in amairca has one!!!!!!!!! Jason Hamalainen.

Michael
December 6, 2011 10:10 am

A final note and i am moving on…. HD radio may bring you better sound across the air waves wit a few other improvements maybe, but in this economic climate to swiitch when HD radio that is not poplular NOR offered in all autos as even an option.. This means in a time when people or crunching numbers and pinching pennies you are asking them to go out and purchase hew home HD equipment or New aftrmarket recievers for autos ($$$$$), unless you are just now buying a HIGH end car with that option. Which my new 2011 did not come with at all. So I am fucked! It will NOT see an aftermarket shop or audio device (warranty implications)…. This is just not a smart move at this time and I am almost certain, that if your station was cash strapped.. well you will be LOSING a large fan/listerner base thus becoming even more cash strapped.. none of this makes since to me and obvioulsy the individual’s in the upper ranks that made the decision to take the only rock station in the area to HD did not care about the listeners.. This is giving it to your lisinters !!!!! Plain and simple. And you expect us to follow you with that kind consideration???? I think not! (none of this is directed to non management personnel, but to those who were rewponsible for this move. and with NO, i mean NO waring.. none that i heard anyway)…

    Jason
    December 6, 2011 5:20 pm

Yes, Michael there is usually no notice when a station makes a change like this. The bad news is The Buzz is not on 103.1 FM anymore. The good news is you can still listen to The Buzz streaming through Buzz103.com or through the Radio.com app on your smartphone/iphone/ipad.

I just checked streaming 103.1 to see what was being said about all this and what i heard? What did i hear? NOTHING.. and what else did I hear? NO DJ’s and You are NOT playing the same type music at all. What I heard is NOT the Buzz that just left FM radio. What kind of shit are you playing? Sayonara forever!

    Jason
    December 6, 2011 5:19 pm

What are YOU talking about? True, it’s not the exact Buzz that we were playing on the air this past year (we ditched the classic rock when we went to streaming only – it’s just like the classic Buzz we’ve had the previous 15 years before the addition of the ZZ TOPs of the world).

Give it another effort Michael. It’s there – I’ve been listening all day! I was DJing for a while, Mahoney is on this evening.

I have been a loyal listener of the Buzz since it began 16 years ago. I feel the Buzz sold out when they let CBS take over. what is it about Christmas that causes radio stations to go crazy? last year the alternative station in Fort Lauderdale that played alternative rock stopped and started playing holiday music. when the holidays were over they started playing easy listening music. this year your station seems to have lost it’s mind. there are now no alternative rock stations near here. if i have to buy a satellite radio will not come back to the regular free radio again.

December 7, 2011 9:29 am

Well, while I like all rock icluding some classic when i am in the mood for it, i was NOT a fan of hearing Classic rock on the Buzz. It quite annoyed me. However, I enjoyed hearing modern rock like Shinedown, Seether, Nickleback, Papa Roach etc. When I want classic I will tune into the Gater which is NOT often! I prefer new Rock! What I heard yesterday was a little to light for my taste including a song or two I seen on VH1 :( I enjoy HEARING DJ’s. I will give it another try. Bring the Buzz ROCK back MINUS Classic! I have to admit, i have only been in the area for a couple of years, so I don’t know what your earlier format was.

Melissa
December 7, 2011 10:25 am

Hey all of you at the BUZZ…. Why couldn’t you leave well enough alone? Your station was the only station I listen to and you had to screw it up by playing the same POP music like all the other stations. Please bring our ROCK MUSIC back and ditch the pop. :( Bring back our Disturbed, Metallica, System of the Down…etc…We miss the good music!!

    Jason

Been listening for awhile now, will continue to evaluate today at work. I Will never stream at home and certainly not use my phone in the car for lack of a HD receiver so that is out. Won’t be purchasing any HD equ. either. That said, It appears you lost me. What I am hearing is a bit to light and too alternative for me. A few were borderline punkish. I heard maybe 3 songs I liked a little. I guess I prefer a “Modern Rock” to “Active Rock” format, not straight obscure alternative. I prefer New Rock with inclusion of the NEW Harder music like Avenged Sevenfold, Godsmack, Shinedown, Nonpoint, Nickleback, Lincoln Park, Evanescence, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and maybe some Pretty Reckless lol… It appears this format is as Wikipedia says “Narrow-interest rock stations are particularly common on the Internet and satellite radio scenes” It appears this is what the Buss is now. I do prefer a better mix, but MIGHT I ADD, absolutely NO CLASSIC ROCK. Tired of hearing “Sweet Child O’ Mine”. Just an example. BTW, I did hear you the Air! :) Finally. But, It seems like I don’t have a station now. No Rock station on air and certainly can’t conform to Gater nation. I liked the Buzz on air minus the damn classic rock! I don’t know why Rock stations that are not “Classic Rock” feel the need to include Classic Rock in the line up. If one wants classic rock, then just turn the dang dial. It is a shame what happened to the Buzz! What is up with this area and Rock stations? I read some history on that. ???? They can’t seem to keep one. I heard a few people lost thier jobs there, was it J. Loper & R. Rasar? Since I have not heard anything of them? Continuing to evaluate.

I’m in Vero Beach and we are no longer picking up the buzz. I have spoken to 5 different people and they all say the same. We are getting this corny pop station. Why has this changed in the last couple of days???

Please read the info near the top of the homepage at Buzz103.com titled “Thank You South Florida” for the info that you are seeking. December 8, 2011 8:48 am

Very disappointed in the new format- just like every other station in town. Have you lost your nerve to provide alternative music because of a survey that stated women in the area wanted more pop? What a drag!

    Jason
    December 8, 2011 2:48 pm

Nope. It was unfortunately just a business decision. The station couldn’t continue not being profitable and a change was mandatory. Sorry! Wanted to share!

Regarding articles below, seems like this is a trend that has been happening for several years now by ‘C B S’ . I think the info they are using is only part of the picture and not a true accuracy of radio markets. I don’t think the segment of people that download from the net represents the total true market. I don’t EVER download from the internet, neither does my wife. WE listen to RADIO or buy the occasional CD.. The actuall CD! I would presume there are many more like us! So, Skewd data at best! I really don’t think 103.1 NOW will gleam enough listeners from the other several top 40 in the area to gain enough ad revenue to equal what they already had with the BUZZ Alt Rock. I could be wrong, but don’t foresee it.

a couple years back This has happened in Boston. _ “Boston’s 104.1 WBCN, “The Rock of Boston,” will leave the airwaves on August 13th. The rock station had been broadcasting for 41 years”
also,

According to the New York Times, K-Rock’s listenership had fallen to 21st in New York’s Arbitron rankings in the important Age 12-and-above demographic for the month of January. The CBS-owned WNOW, or NOW FM as 92.3 will be known as of tomorrow, will face off against a giant in New York radio in Z100, a Clear Channel-owned Top 40 radio station that’s been around since 1983 and represents the Number Two radio station in the region. CBS Radio has made it a habit in challenging Clear Channel’s Top 40 domination of late, as CBS turned Los Angeles station KLSX into Top 40 to compete against Clear Channel’s KIIS two weeks ago.

The shift to Top 40 represents the direction the entire music industry is heading: While music sales are slumping and radio stations are suffering through their worst years since the 1950s, sales of digital singles have gone through the roof. Top 40 radio caters to that crowd.

IS ROCK RADIO DYING AS WE KNOW IT?

(you can’t say FM radio is dying to all those on that band wagon in response due to rocks decline on the Fm dial. Look at all the pop top 40 & Country FM stations and a few rock flourishing. )

THIS TREND SUCKS. How many top 40 stations in each market do we actually need. Screw CBS! Defend them if you will, but I give thumbs down. No love here for the CBS’s NOW format!

Here is to Hoping the BUZZ can make a comeback!

Yo… that’s not The Buzz. That’s a new station on the old Buzz frequency. (Though it’s not exactly the same) you can still get Buzz music (the original Alternative blend) streaming through Buzz103.com or on the Radio.com app for your smartphone/iPod/iPad.

maybe ZROCK can come back and save us from getting stuck with hip hop, country, or “classic rock”. Not all of us construction workers have access to radios beyond FM channels. The work day has never felt so long, thanks a lot

It’s seriously a TRAGEDY that Buzz 103.1 has been replaced by the NOW. It’s the same CRAP that ALL the other stations play! That’s what was so AWESOME about the Buzz…they play the great music you DON’T hear from any other radio station!!!!! The gater attempts but cannot touch the BUZZ. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring them back !!!!!

Any plans with expanding this rock station to Miami? It’s been over a year that 93.1 rock disappeared and the only rock we have is classic rock. Please consider it’s torture not being able to listen to some modern rock instead they get switched to some stupid bi-lingual station. :O Thank you :)

Sorry about the lack of rock in Miami – trust me it’s an issue now all over South Florida.
Please listen through Buzz103.com or the Radio.com app on your mobile devices… or even through iTunes radio.
